Gift cards will do any day anytime. And with the way our economy has been, a lot of stores with good products at discounted prices have sprung up. There are so many bargains out there on quality products.
You can send me an e-mail for online stores with bargains.

The past 2 years my family has stopped exchanging gifts and give the amount we would have spent to our favorite charity or to a food shelf. We still bring small stocking stuffer items and play games for them.

X-mas is about giving and the feeling of helping someone who really needs it and having fun with your family is more fulfilling than exchanging gifts.
References :
If you're good at crafts, consider making your relatives gifts like wall hangings; table runners; toys; Christmas ornaments; or knitted hats, scarves, sweaters, and mittens.
References :
Lots of homemade items can be used. You can make homemade cookies/brownies etc and put them on a decorative christmas plate (plastic/paper or the dollar store sells the glass for $1) wrap it in cellophane, You can get a jar from the $1 store and make homemade hot chocolate there are tons and tons of recipesfor this online. You can buy mini coffee bags or a gift card for a coffee store even if its just a free cup and get a mini thermosor mug and wrap it with the clear cellophane and a bow. You can buy christmas dvd's or christmas music and wrap them and find a cute saying online to go with it. Buy gift cards and put a cute saying with them, or even a bottle of wine or chamagne or something like that is always thoughtful. If its mostly younger kids egg nog and cookies or apple cider and cake.
References :
Yes its rude. I think it makes it feel more like appeasing than giving if you start letting people ask for or even demand things. Personally I will not ask for anything in any gifting situation. I just make sure that anyone that asks me what I want knows that I would be happy with anything they wish to give me and thank them for the thought. If I were you I would just send them a card. This thing with the baby's bank bond is just over the top. Why don't they just tell you exactly what to buy and send you a bill for the baby bond? LOL
References :
If a family is financially limited and there are young children, then drawing relatives aside and making small, reasonable and practical requests at certain times of the year would be understandable. But a financially secure family sending out itemised demands, including demands for money, is beyond rude. It's grasping, to say the least. And if they respond to your refusals with abuse then they are not nice people. It strikes me that they are using their children as leverage and emotional manipulation tools against you in order to get what they want. If you don't deposit the money and they respond by threatening to restrict your access to the children then you are dealing with some very nasty people. If you feel that you need to pay to see your nephews and nieces, then I'm afraid that they're going to play these games for the rest of the children's lives. And I'm also afraid that if they treat you and the rest of your family with such abject and grasping contempt then this nasty little habit probably get passed onto the children.

I'm sorry, I wish I could help you but I have the feeling nothing really can. If you stick up for yourself it'll probably result in hell to pay. If you do nothing then it'll get steadily worse. I've been in similar situations myself; end result, I see next to nothing of my nephews and nieces and given the nasty, spoiled self-centred and manipulative brats they've turned into, I can't really regret it. If it's any consolation, people who teach their children that relatives are easily manipulated sources of income and power and nothing more, usually end up receiving very nasty shocks themselves when the children grow up...
References :
It is rude. The only time you give a list is if it is asked for.Stop giving the adults and just give what you want for the baby.Christmas is a pagan holiday anyway, people don't celebrate Christ's birthday.Anyway a gift is suppose to be given because you want to give it not because of a list.
References :
Thats extremely rude. No one, apart from small children who you ask it from, should not be sending lists out at all.

I have only ever written lists to Santa, and my father when he asked me. Even then he only ever asked me for lists to practise my writing and creativity skills (I had to write the list neatly, and decorate it :) It was great fun! He kept me doing this till 17 to see how my creativity was coming along)

I adore buying presents for people, but I will ask what someone wants if I am stuck and do not know what they will like.
